MOONLIT SANCTUARY CONSERVATION PARK

Explore the Australian bush-land while feeding kangaroos and wallabies, petting friendly koalas and enjoying encounters with colourful birds, reptiles, dingoes and many other animals including endangered species.

Located on the Mornington Peninsula and en-route to Phillip Island, Moonlit Sanctuary is the ideal place to learn more about the fascinating animals that call Australia home with keeper presentations and shows every 30 minutes.  For more intimate experiences, we can arrange encounters with the following animals on request:

  • Koala Encounter

  • Dingo Encounter

  • Python Holding

  • Kookaburra Encounter

Why do we love Moonlit Sanctuary?

Simple – they are working hard to save critically endangered wildlife like the Orange-bellied Parrot!

In September 2018 there were fewer than 20 orange-bellied parrots still in the wild. They breed in south-west Tasmania over summer then migrate every winter to the southern coastline of Victoria, including the shores of Western Port Bay, 500 metres south of Moonlit Sanctuary.

Moonlit Sanctuary has constructed a breeding facility capable of holding up to 20 pairs of birds with the support of Zoos Victoria and the Aviculture Society of Australia. Since 2014, Moonlit has bred over 140 birds of which more than 40 have been released into the wild.
